At Yin and Tonic Acupuncture we want to salute Sami S. David M.D. and Jill Blakeway for their wonderful new book “Making Babies”. It is an easy to understand three month diet and lifestyle regimen that can help boost overall health and increase fertility. Nowadays it is very easy for patients to get caught up in more and more extreme western fertility treatments that could be unnecessary. In some cases gentle and simple changes might be the solution. Natural remedies have been used for centuries to help women conceive and generally speaking have little or no side effects. Certainly diet and exercise improvements can’t be bad! So if you are encountering fertility hurdles think about picking up a copy of Jill Blakeway and Sami S. David’s book “Making Babies” as it could be a real asset to the pursuit of a beautiful family.

For those patients who are running into more complex fertility challenges we would also like to recommend a couple of other essential books:

“Is Your Body Baby Friendly?” by Alan E. Beer, M.D. This book is of the essence for any practitioner working in the field of fertility as well as patients who want to know as much as possible about new developments in treatment. It is especially useful for patients who have experienced repeated IVF failure, recurrent pregnancy loss and unexplained fertility. It explores the negative role that the immune system may play in fertility as well as tests and treatments.

“In Vitro Fertilization. The A.R.T. of Making Babies” by Geoffrey Sher, M.D., Virginia Marriage Davis, R.N., Jean Stoess, M.A. This is an excellent guide to the ins and outs of an IVF cycle. It can be a very helpful guide for patients about to go through an IVF cycle as it can give them an idea of what to expect. It can also be very helpful in understanding what drugs are given when and why, as well as the timing of treatments.

“Taking Charge of Your Fertility” by Toni Weschler. This is our favorite book on fertility. If you haven’t read it please do so as soon as you can and pass it on to every woman you know. It is an essential guide to understanding a woman’s fertility. Perhaps it’s most valuable asset is the section on reading and understanding a Basal Body Temperature Chart. Understanding temperature changes during the cycle (as well as cervical fluid changes) can be used to know exactly when to try to conceive even more accurately than expensive ovulation predictor kits. The same knowledge can be used for women who are not trying to conceive and would like alternatives to the pill and other forms of birth control.

Please feel free to email us through the contact section of our website if you have any questions about fertility. We are here to help.
